Addiction and Recovery

This page describes a sense of common experiences of addiction and how counselling can support you in exploring patterns, meaning, and change in your life.

Addiction can take many forms, from substances to unwanted behaviours that feel impossible to control. Often it involves feeling stuck between wanting change and not knowing how to begin.

Common experiences include:

  • Feeling trapped in patterns you can’t fully explain

  • Trying to change but not seeing lasting results

  • Carrying shame, secrecy, or isolation around the behaviours

  • Struggling to recognise your identity outside addiction

  • Early recovery feeling confusing and not clearly hopeful

  • Realising that stopping a behaviour doesn’t resolve what lies underneath

Counselling here is not about simply “quitting” or following a set programme. It’s about exploring the story of your addiction, understanding the patterns that hold you, and creating space to experiment with new ways of living.

If any of this resonates, you’re welcome to explore my approach further or consider a free initial conversation to see if this support feels right for you.
