Anxiety and Shame

Developing a steadier, kinder relationship with yourself and your inner world

Anxiety and shame often travel together. Anxiety about what might happen, shame about who you are or what you've done. Both involve harsh internal criticism and a sense that you're never quite enough.

Common experiences include:

  • Constant worry that feels impossible to turn off

  • Self-criticism that feels automatic and relentless

  • Avoiding situations where you might be judged or fail

  • Feeling exposed or defective in ways others can't see

  • Physical tension, racing thoughts, or trouble sleeping

  • Difficulty accepting kindness or believing you deserve care

How I Approach Anxiety and Shame Counselling in Vancouver

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in Vancouver, I work with adults navigating anxiety, worry, and shame. Counselling here isn't about positive thinking or just managing symptoms. It's about understanding where the harsh inner voice came from and developing a kinder relationship with yourself.

What We Work On Together

We explore what the anxiety and shame are trying to protect you from. What old stories or experiences taught you that you weren't safe, acceptable, or enough. What it might mean to meet yourself with curiosity instead of criticism.

Anxiety and shame thrive in secrecy and isolation. When we bring them into the light and examine them together, their grip often begins to loosen. The work isn't about eliminating difficult feelings but learning to relate to them differently.

The Work Is Collaborative

We move at your pace. Some people come with lifelong patterns of anxiety or shame, others with recent struggles. Wherever you are, there's no judgement. We work together to understand what's been happening, notice what's shifting, and support the changes that feel meaningful to you.
