Life Transitions and

Identity Shifts

This page offers a sense of experiences of life transition and identity shift, and how counselling can support reflection, discernment, and movement forward when familiar ways of being no longer fit.

There are seasons when life changes in ways that quietly unsettle who we understand ourselves to be. Transitions can be chosen or imposed, gradual or sudden, but they often leave us feeling ungrounded or unsure how to move forward.

Common experiences include:

  • Feeling caught between who you were and who you are becoming

  • Losing a sense of direction, confidence, or purpose

  • Grief or confusion following major changes in work, health, relationships, or roles

  • Pressure to “move on” before there’s been space to make sense of what has changed

  • A loss of coherence, as if life no longer fits together as it once did

  • Wrestling with others’ expectations while sensing an inner pull toward something different

Counselling offers space to slow down during times of transition, to name what has been lost, and to explore what is emerging. Rather than rushing toward a new identity or solution, this work supports a more integrated and realistic way of moving forward, one that honours both where you have been and where you may be headed.

If any of this resonates, you’re welcome to explore my approach further or consider a free initial conversation to see if this support feels right for you.
